RE: Lime-Away

Does the fiver have a washer/dryer? If so, the sludge may be built up powdered laundry soap........

Snow load

We will be winterizing our Teton for the first time. We will be in heavy snow country and our house has no protection for the fiver. DH is planning on keeping most of the snow off...but I am against him getting up there in any capacity :E
How much of a snow load can a fiver handle? It must make some difference if the snow is "heavy" or light? Any ideas for a temporary snow roof over the fiver? We can store it somewhere where the snow is less, but we really want to keep it with us.....

We will be doing our first winterizing...ever :E
I understand what y'all are saying....but what about the washer? Run the pump 'til it has antifreeze in it? and then the drain hose?

RE: Combo washer/dryers ??

We have a GE Spacesaver stack. The washer is a regular size tub and will wash a normal load. The dryer holds a normal load of light items and takes about 45-60 minutes to dry. Heavy items, like jeans, jackets, sweats and towels, I divide into two loads to dry. I can wash and dry at the same time. They do a great job. I hate landromats.....

RE: Changing Banks when changing residency

We did the same as you and in addition opened and account at a CU in Sioux Falls. We got creditcards thru them and eventually closed the ones in our former banks. We did leave one account with my IRA open with a $5 savings acct. It worked well with no problems. As far as accts in 2 states...we have accts in three and no problems. We pay income tax on those accts for the interest we earn.
Why do you need 2 long lines of credit? I suggest closing them as soon as possible. Don't hit the road with debt. Are you planning on fulltiming?

RE: HAVE TO ASK

We are fine. We had an exit strategy. Unfortunately we cashed in our investments as the market was going down. Lost a bit, but we are out and putting our funds into dirt. It will take a better economy to sell our rig, so we will wait that out. Meanwhile, we will store the fiver and move into the house......and Mom will relocate to Idaho in the spring.
This proved to us that our exit strategy was a good thing.

RE: A Fork in the Road

Thank you one and all :B
Yes, we will miss the road, we already do, even tho we are still on it. The logistics are a bit daunting, especially in the current economic situation. We are moving to the mountains at the worst time of year, but we are resilient, so will make it. Hopefully we will be in before the heavy snows pile up:E
We have already made friends in the area and they are a wealth of info, which we are taking to heart. My Mom is so excited she is ready to dump her house and move right up :B All of this is a whole new thread, which I will get onto, as soon as I get my head around it....

A new direction

Terry and I have been fulltiming, volunteering and workcamping for nine years this month. We have traveled the country coast to coast and north to south many times. We love the lifestyle and it has been good to us. We have met many good folks and have no regrets. We began this adventure looking for the perfect place. We have found what we believe is our paradise.
It is time to plant some roots again. Due to family issues we will be coming off the road in a few weeks. My Mother (87 years young) should not be living alone and has agreed to come live with us. We have bought a home in Donnelly, ID and will be moving in.... in about three weeks.
We are looking forward to learning to cross country ski, snowshoe and snowmobiling, along with shoveling snow for upper body exercise:E A snowblower is on order:W Summers will see us fishing, boating, hiking, cycling and whatever else folk do while living in the mountains right near the lake.
We will be downsizing and getting something smaller...pu and truck camper...that Alaska trip may be possible, after all We will join the ranks of the masses....campers :B I will continue to moderate both the workcamping and fulltime forums, unless y'all don't want me anymore:E
It has been a good ride and we are ambivalent about leaving, but family comes first and we are looking forward to having the room to enjoy friends and family visits. Come see us and keep us informed about the outside world of fulltiming, volunteering and workcamping.

RE: Fulltimer winter prep

Ah, yes, hitchup, we have extra space heaters just in case, and our basement is well heated from the furnaces (2).
Folks here are starting to skirt, all the spigots are heat taped and insulated, so that should be fine. If we have any problems, we will get a trash can, cut an opening in the side for the hose and pack it with insulation. That will help and keep water and snow off the spigot.

We took factory delivery for our Teton and the inspection took four days. When we left it was 100% ready to roll :B No issues at all.

RE: Doom and Gloom!

The folks with excellent credit will still have access to it.
This is absolutely true. Last week we walked into a Subaru dealer and a few hours later left with a brand new 2009 Forrester. $O down and financed for 72 months. We received the payment book two days ago......
Love this little wannabe SUV, BTW :B It will be very necessary for driving in snowy conditions :E
And don't tell me to buy American....we gave a salesman his next few paychecks, at the least :W

RE: Fulltimer winter prep

We are spending the winter in Idaho, so are faced with a "bit" of cold. We have a 4 season fiver with dual pane windows, heated tanks, lines, etc. We just finished heat taping and insulating the hose and bib. We always keep the fresh water tank full. We have a good drop on the sewer so should be OK. We have pillows for the vents.
We have an oil radiator heater that we use to supplement the furnace. We are very open to the basement, so that helps, as well. We will not be skirting, but I imagine that the styrofoam type insulation could be cut to jam under the fiver along the edges.
